Subject-Didactic and Practical School Studies
The focus of the first academic year is on subject didactics and preparation for the integrated practical semester (internship, accompanying seminar, planning and analyzing lessons, research methods, theory). Students can take the module completion exam for subject didactics at the end of the first academic year.
The study and teaching projects consist of textbook analyses, methods for foreign language instruction, media use, and performance evaluation. Students learn how to plan, implement, and present a teaching project. They act as researching instructors and acquire the ability to plan a French lesson accompanied by theory and targeted towards the appropriate audience. They are able to systematically observe and analyze a lesson, define larger and more precise goals, and select appropriate learning materials.
Technical Studies
Aside from the study components that are linked to school instruction, students continue with their own language lessons. The literary component focuses on different approaches to literature analysis and literary historiography as well as interdisciplinary questions from literature analysis with overlaps to media, art, and cultural studies. This analytic and descriptive skill forms the foundation for continuous reflection of teaching and learning processes when working with Francophone literature and culture later on in one's career.
In the linguistic component, students deal with topics such as language acquisition and multilingualism, the relationship between language and media, language normalization and language politics, the relationship between language and society, and more recent developments in synchronous linguistics (cognitive linguistics, pragmatism, communication theory).
Faszination Technik
Corresponding to the fact that the course of study is offered at a technical university, the relationships between langauge, communication, and technology will be explored in "Konzept Technik."
Prerequisites
First University Degree
An initial university degree is required to begin a Master's teacher training program. An initial degree from a university of applied sciences is also acceptable to be admitted to studies for one of the “big vocational subjects” in combination with one of the respective “small vocational subjects” The exact technical educational background required is summarized in the examination regulation. The examination board is responsible for determining if admissions requirements have been fulfilled.
Language Requirements
Applicants must submit proof of knowledge of two foreign languages to be admitted to teacher training studies. The university entrance qualification typically fulfills this. Students, who did not learn German as a native speaker and acquired their university entrance qualification in German, only need to submit proof of knowledge of one additional language.
